Happy Sunday! We hope you've had a great start to June. How are we nearly halfway through the year already?

It's still full throttle here as another week has zoomed by faster than a ewe charging across the field after hearing the feed bucket rattle.

This week has been packed with lamb jobs, goat experiences, and our annual tradition of attending Children's Day for the Glendale Agricultural Society.

No wonder I'm walking a little strangely and feel like I could happily fall asleep on a washing line.

The goat kids have now had their final injections, which means it's nearly time for them to head off to their forever homes.

Experiences have been chockablock, and my favourite thing I heard this week was:

"This has been the most wholesome thing I've ever done."

Sunday brought families from as far away as Wales. One family visited following a heart transplant, and hearing their story and appreciation for the Freeman Hospital, where my mam works, filled me with joy.

One of the best parts of this job is hearing people's stories and learning what brought them to the farm. Every visitor has their own tale to tell, and I genuinely never forget them. My memory is like an elephant's when it comes to faces and stories.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us this week. We love sharing the farm, the animals, and a little bit of countryside magic with you all.

No idea how they go there. No gates open no damaged fencing as it's all new.
It's like they floated there. Thankfully they happily follow a bucket and came out like pros.

Why?

Because he's an absolute foodie and firmly believes every snack within a 10-mile radius belongs to him.

Today's mission was convincing me that my biscuit looked much better shared with a hungry goat.

His face was very much saying, "Here lady, let's split that biscuit. It's only fair."

Before anyone asks... no, I didn't give him any. If anything, the boy needs to go on a diet, not add biscuits to his daily menu. 🐐🍪

Coconut remains happily not pregnant, just exceptionally enthusiastic about food.

One of the questions we get asked a lot is, "Aren't you sad when the kids start leaving? Don't you miss them?"

Well... yes and no.

Most years we know fairly early on which ones will be staying. Sadly, you can't keep them all. I'd say having over 50 Pygmy goats would probably earn me a front row seat at Goat Addicts Anonymous. 🐐

We've decided to keep five kids this year, but my lord, if Nutella wasn't already reserved for a very special home, he might have earned himself a permanent snuggle pass to stay with mum.

So yes, we do miss them. Some more than others.

This boy will definitely be missed. He's thrown himself into goat experiences, adores people, and has never met a stranger. He's the sort of goat who spots a visitor and immediately assumes they're there specifically to fuss him.

A full-throttle character goat from day one, and the New Leaf Centre are very lucky to be taking him. ❤️🐐

The goats are relaxed, the farm is calmer, and you get loads more one to one time with the herd. Perfect if you prefer a quieter visit or just want a wholesome reset button in the middle of the week.

You may leave covered in goat hair.
You may become emotionally attached to a tiny goat.
You may already be planning your next visit before you leave the car park.

Happy Sunday! Let's catch up on another week that's flown by faster than a goat hitting rocket mode after hearing the dinner bell. 🚀🐐

The heat... who knew the UK could feel like the inside of an air fryer? It's been torture at times. We even had a cheeky day out on Monday, our first day off since lambing. Armed with a picnic and questionable decision-making skills, we headed for a forest walk on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year. Safe to say we spent most of it wondering whose bright idea that was!

Back at the farm, the goats have been making the most of the sunshine. Full horizontal mode engaged, bellies pointed towards the sun as if it's some kind of goat deity.

We've had a full, maybe even overfull, week of goat experiences with plenty of smiles and comments that keep us going:

🐐 "This is the best money I've ever spent." 🐐 "I don't want to go home." (From an adult, I should add! 🤣) 🐐 "I want to take Marmalade home." 🐐 "I can't leave, the goat on my knee loves me too much."

We also hosted North East Sight Matters this week and it was lovely seeing families enjoying the goats, learning all about them, and getting stuck into farm life.

Meanwhile, the sheep have been keeping us busy. Flystrike is already appearing months earlier than we'd usually expect, so we've been clipping plenty of bums to keep everyone comfortable and healthy. Group One lambs were also weighed this week, and we already have a whopper tipping the scales at 39kg!

Next week brings more mucking out, more sheep jobs, more goat experiences, and finally some physio for Sam. After weeks of bending over sheep, her back has officially submitted a formal complaint.

One thing I get asked a lot is “are they playing or actually fighting?” and “surely all that headbutting hurts?” 🐐💥

Well… it depends on the age really.

As kids it’s definitely more playtime chaos. Tiny tiddlywink battles with dramatic bouncing and zero dignity involved. Krispie and Jam do the cutest little play fights like two popcorn kernels arguing over who gets the tiniest goat crown 👑🐐

Once they’re fully grown it changes a bit. Then it’s more about personal space and herd rankings. Basically goat language for: “excuse me mate, I’m above you on the management chart.”

Do they hurt their heads? Surprisingly no. Their skulls are incredibly tough and built for it. Nature really looked at goats and said “you know what this animal needs? A built in crash helmet.”

So goats and headbutts? Yep. They go together like hay and bad decisions

Marmalade update because this tiny goat has officially taken over Sam's life and is rapidly becoming the main character on the goat experiences. 🐐👑

Our little bottle kid, also known as Daisy's minion, is now down to two bottles a day and has started dabbling in the world of veggies. Big life milestones happening over here.

She's taken to the goat experiences like a goat on a catwalk. The second a gate opens and a human appears she's front and centre ready for action.

Need your knee claimed? Marmalade's got it covered.
Need climbing on like a small furry mountain goat? Also covered.
Need aggressive levels of snuggles? Absolutely covered.

In the barn at night she's still treating mum like a rodeo course and Daisy just patiently accepts her fate. But catching them curled up together is ridiculously cute. Daisy secretly loves her... even if she'd never admit it publicly.
